As a deadly snowstorm continues to sweep across the United States, there is a measure of relief for Filipinos.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed on Tuesday that no Filipino casualties have been reported following the severe winter weather that has claimed at least 29 lives across the country.
Nearly half of the United States has been affected by the powerful winter freeze.
Homes were left without power.
Roads became impassable under thick layers of snow.
Flights were delayed, diverted, or canceled—bringing daily life to a halt for thousands.
Despite the chaos, the DFA said it has not received any report of Filipinos harmed by Snowstorm Fern.
The Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C., along with the Philippine Consulates General in New York, Chicago, and Houston, are closely monitoring the situation.
Filipinos in affected areas are advised to call 911 or local authorities immediately in case of life-threatening emergencies.
For consular concerns, the DFA reminded overseas Filipinos that hotline numbers are available through the official websites and social media pages of their respective embassies and consulates.
Meanwhile, the danger is not over.
Weather authorities warn that heavy snow continues to fall in the northeastern United States, with below-freezing temperatures expected to persist in the eastern regions in the coming days.
As the storm rages on, officials urge everyone to stay alert, stay warm, and stay safe.
