Fuel prices in the Philippines have gone up again — and this has made life really hard for jeepney, bus, and tricycle drivers, also known as PUV (Public Utility Vehicle) drivers.
But here’s the good news: four big fuel companies have agreed to help!
🚗💸 Petron, Caltex, Shell, and Cleanfuel all said “yes” to giving a P1 discount for every liter of fuel to PUVs.
That means drivers will now pay a bit less every time they gas up.
This was announced by Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Sharon Garin in a radio interview. She explained that even though the government can’t control the price of fuel because of the law, they are asking fuel companies to help out.
“The law says we can’t control prices, but we can ask for help,” she said.
💥 Why are fuel prices going up?
Last week, there were two big price hikes:
-
Gasoline went up by ₱1.75 per liter
-
Diesel rose by ₱2.60 per liter
-
Kerosene increased by ₱2.40 per liter
All these increases happened on Tuesday (June 24, 2025) and again on Thursday (June 26, 2025).
The reason? There’s a conflict between Israel and Iran that’s making it harder and riskier to ship oil around the world. That means countries like the Philippines, who import all their fuel, have to pay more.
“We don’t have our own oil,” Secretary Garin said. “We import everything.”
⚖️ Who gets hurt when fuel prices rise?
Sometimes it’s the drivers and regular people who pay more.
Sometimes, even the oil companies lose money.
“It depends on the situation,” said Garin.
🌟 More Good News: Price Drop Coming Soon!
After weeks of rising prices, there’s a possible price rollback this coming Tuesday, according to the DOE.
-
The expected decrease could be as much as ₱2 per liter!
And there might be more rollbacks next week if global prices keep going down. A ceasefire between Israel and Iran is helping calm things down, which could mean cheaper fuel again soon.
“I’m really hoping prices continue to go down,” Garin added.
🎁 BONUS for Regular Drivers
Even private motorists (like moms and dads with family cars) can save! Fuel companies also have loyalty programs that give special promos and discounts if you keep buying from them.
