Philippines crowned Asia’s next big culinary hotspot

The world is starting to take notice — the Philippines is fast becoming one of Asia’s most exciting food destinations.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) proudly welcomed this recognition after Marriott International’s “Future of Food 2026” report spotlighted the country as one of the rising culinary hotspots in Asia — calling it “ready to be plated as the next gastronomic gateway.”

This global report drew insights from more than 30 top chefs, mixologists, culinary experts, and regional food media, supported by fresh data from Marriott’s first-ever regional survey. Together, they painted a delicious picture of the Philippines’ growing influence on Asia’s food scene — from humble kitchens to high-end restaurants.

Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco expressed her excitement, emphasizing that gastronomy tourism plays a powerful role in shaping the country’s identity — one that celebrates Filipino creativity, culture, and community.

“The DOT remains committed to expanding gastronomy tourism, recognizing its far-reaching benefits for our communities,” Frasco said.

Under the National Tourism Development Plan (NTDP) 2023–2028, gastronomy tourism stands as one of its key pillars, with a bold vision — to make the Philippines a true gastronomic paradise. The plan focuses on developing regional culinary circuits, uplifting local producers, and empowering Filipino chefs to bring our flavors to the global table.

This recognition builds on a string of major milestones. Earlier this year, the DOT facilitated the historic visit of the Michelin Guide to the Philippines — a clear signal that the country is claiming its place on the world’s culinary map.

Next month, the Philippines will again take the spotlight as Bacolod City and Negros Occidental host the first-ever regional edition of Terra Madre Asia & Pacific (TMAP) — the world’s largest sustainable gastronomy event — in partnership with the DOT.

According to the “Future of Food 2026” report, key trends shaping this rise include:

  • The emergence of fine-casual dining — where elegance meets comfort.

  • A revival of native ingredients, proudly celebrating local produce.

  • And a push toward immersive, multi-sensory dining experiences that go beyond traditional meals.

With each bite, aroma, and plate served, the Philippines is proving that its culinary story is just beginning — and the world is hungry for more. 🍽️✨
