TV host Drew Arellano and his wife, actress and host Iya Villania, are proud parents of five children. After the birth of their fifth baby, Anya, Drew made a big decision—he had a vasectomy.
Drew shared a photo of himself on Instagram, lying on a hospital bed with a smile. He wrote in his caption,
“Happy late and advanced Mother’s Day to my wife,” and used funny hashtags like #HappyVA-SEC-TO-MEEE and #snipsnip.
What is a Vasectomy?
A vasectomy is a type of birth control for men. A doctor cuts or blocks the tubes called vas deferens, which carry sperm from the testicles. This means no more sperm comes out when a man releases semen. Because there’s no sperm, a woman can’t get pregnant.
Dr. Mary Joyce Mondina-Yabyabin, an expert from the Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital, explained this on a health show called Pinoy MD.
She said:
-
A man still makes sperm, but it just stays inside the body and gets absorbed naturally.
-
A vasectomy does NOT make a man weaker or lose his sex drive.
-
The doctor uses anesthesia, so the man doesn’t feel pain during the operation.
-
Vasectomy is not dangerous and does NOT cause prostate cancer.
Why Did Drew Do It?
Drew and Iya already have a big happy family:
-
Primo
-

-

And now, baby Anya, born in February 2025
The couple got married in 2014, and last year, Drew had already mentioned he was thinking about getting a vasectomy. Now that they feel their family is complete, he went through with it.
Many people praised Drew online for being responsible and loving toward his wife and kids.
