Manila City is now on “Blue Alert” as officials prepare for the possible impact of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, which is being strengthened by a Low Pressure Area (LPA).
The Manila Public Information Office announced that the alert was raised at 2 p.m. Tuesday, following the directive of Mayor Isko Moreno to make sure the city is ready for the rainy season.
According to DOST-PAGASA and Manila’s resident meteorologist, the city may experience light to moderate rains, with chances of sudden heavy downpours, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
Residents, especially those living near the coastline and riverbanks, were strongly advised to remain alert and prepared for possible flooding. Authorities reminded everyone to closely monitor updates and follow official advisories for their safety.
As of PAGASA’s 4 p.m. update, the LPA was spotted over the coastal waters of Mercedes, Camarines Norte. While the system has a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone, it will still bring cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms to:
-
Metro Manila
-
Ilocos Region
-
Cordillera Administrative Region
-
Cagayan Valley
-
Central Luzon
-
CALABARZON
-
Camarines Norte
-
Camarines Sur
With rains expected across most parts of Luzon in the next 24 hours, city officials are urging Manileños to stay safe, stay informed, and stay ready.
