PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA – Big news! Cambodia wants to nominate former U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize—the world’s most famous award for peace. Why? Because they say he helped stop a scary fight between Cambodia and Thailand. 😮🕊️
💣 There Was a Big Border Fight
Recently, things got very dangerous at the border between Cambodia and Thailand. There was shooting, bombing, and people running away from their homes. The fight lasted five days, and at least 43 people died. Over 300,000 people had to flee because they were scared for their lives.
This was the worst fighting the two countries had seen in over 10 years.
📞 A Phone Call From Trump Changed Everything
Then something surprising happened:
Donald Trump picked up the phone and called the leaders involved in the fight. His call helped break the deadlock — that means people who couldn’t agree before finally started listening.
Soon after, both sides agreed to stop fighting. They signed a ceasefire (a peace deal) in Malaysia, and the fighting finally stopped.
🏆 Cambodia: “Trump Deserves a Peace Prize!”
Because of this, Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol said on Friday that his country will nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
“We thank him for bringing peace,” Chanthol said.
“We acknowledge his great efforts for peace.”
He confirmed the plan in a text message too. Just one word: “Yes.”
💬 Even Other Countries Support Trump
Cambodia isn’t the only one praising Trump lately:
-
In June, Pakistan said they’d also recommend Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for helping calm things down with India.
-
In July, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he already nominated Trump for the prize.
And after the fighting stopped, even Trump’s former White House spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, posted online:
“Give him the Nobel Peace Prize!”
💰 Not Just Peace — He Helped Save Cambodia’s Economy Too
But that’s not all. Chanthol, who is also in charge of Cambodia’s trade deals, said they were also thankful to Trump for reducing tariffs — these are like taxes on things countries sell to each other.
At first, the U.S. was going to make Cambodia pay a 49% tariff on clothes and shoes, which would’ve hurt thousands of workers in Cambodia’s garment and footwear industry.
Thanks to Trump, the tariff was lowered to 19%, which was a big relief for Cambodian businesses.
“A 49% rate would’ve destroyed us,” Chanthol said.
“We’re thankful it went down.”
🏅 What Is the Nobel Peace Prize?
The Nobel Peace Prize is given to someone who makes the world more peaceful. Past winners include Mother Teresa, Barack Obama, and groups that fight hunger or war.
It’s a huge honor, and not everyone agrees on who should get it.
🌍 Will Trump Win It?
So now, people are asking: Will Trump actually get the prize?
It’s still up to the Nobel Committee to decide. But with more countries supporting him, and after his role in stopping a deadly fight, his name is officially in the running.
One thing’s for sure: this story isn’t over yet.
