Several groups critical of the Marcos administration took to the streets on Sunday, gathering at the EDSA Shrine in Quezon City and Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila. Their message was firm, emotional, and loud: they want President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to step down.
According to a report by Darlene Cay on 24 Oras Weekend, members of PDP-Laban, the Marcos Resign Movement, the Marcos Alis Diyan Network, and the Bangon Sambayanan People’s Movement expressed deep frustration, claiming the President is linked to alleged government corruption.
Eric Celis, Secretary General of the Bangon Sambayanan People’s Movement, voiced their sentiment with urgency.
“Ito po ay isang malinaw na panawagan… wala nang patutunguhan ang gobyerno ni Marcos. Pabagsak na ito, at lugmok na ang bansa.”
This is a clear call: the Marcos government is going nowhere, it is collapsing, and the country is devastated.
Police initially tried to disperse the protest due to the lack of a permit. Still, the demonstrators were eventually allowed to continue their program near a mall in EDSA-Ortigas before dispersing peacefully before 4 p.m.
At Liwasang Bonifacio, another crowd—including Duterte supporters—echoed the same call: they, too, want President Marcos to resign.
