13 Filipinos Missing After HK Fires, Says Consulate

Thirteen Filipinos remain unaccounted for after the devastating Nov. 26 fires that swept through the Wang Fuk Court Residential Complex in Hong Kong, the Philippine Consulate General confirmed.

According to a 24 Oras Weekend report, these individuals have not been officially listed as missing, but authorities still cannot verify their whereabouts. As of Saturday, only one Filipino has been reported injured, and no additional cases have been recorded.

Hong Kong is now observing a three-day mourning period as the city reels from what officials call its worst fire incident in 80 years.

Among those who survived was OFW Carren Dapdap, who shared the terrifying moments she and her five-year-old charge escaped the blaze. She said everything felt normal—quiet, calm—until she opened their unit door.

“Sarado po lahat, tahimik… Pagbukas ko ng pinto, may usok na,” she recalled. Her young ward was watching TV, and she was busy in the kitchen when the smoke suddenly appeared.

What saved them, she said, was timing and a bit of luck: their unit was right beside the fire exit.

“Ang swerte lang po kasi, ‘yung pinto namin katabi lang ng fire exit door,” she added.

As the city grieves and families wait anxiously, officials continue efforts to locate the remaining unaccounted Filipinos.
