Baguio Overflows as Tourists Rush In for Undas Break

Families from Metro Manila and nearby provinces filled the roads to Baguio City, eager to spend the Undas long weekend in the country’s Summer Capital.

According to a report by Jasmin Gabriel-Galban on 24 Oras, more than 400 police officers have been deployed across the city’s cemeteries, parks, and tourist areas. Barangay officials also joined in maintaining peace and order as the crowd swelled.

For many, it’s a much-needed escape.
Makapag-relax,” shared Aileen Ramirez, as her family headed straight to Burnham Park to start their vacation.

Others were simply drawn by Baguio’s signature chill — a refreshing 17 to 18 degrees Celsius.
Napakapresko kahit maglakad,” said Rosanna Santiago. “You don’t sweat, and you just feel so relaxed, even when you’re doing nothing.”

To ensure everyone’s safety, hundreds of police personnel kept watch over the city’s busiest spots, while others patrolled to manage the influx of visitors.

The Department of Transportation also monitored reports of taxi drivers choosing passengers amid heavy traffic.
Ang dami nga talagang namimili na sila dahil traffic,” said DOTC-CAR Director Glenn Dumlao, reminding drivers to follow fair transport rules.

At the Baguio Public Cemetery, visitors started arriving early to pay respects. Nearly 100 prohibited items—including bladed weapons, alcohol, and cigarettes—were confiscated.
Naka-ready tayo, may deposit boxes na tayo for confiscated items,” said PMAJ Harriet Bulcio of BCPO-Station 1.

More than 30,000 people are expected to visit the cemetery throughout the weekend, supported by barangay officials and private security groups.

Meanwhile, flower prices soared as demand surged, with some stalls running out of stock even before Undas officially began.

The city may be crowded, but the atmosphere remains calm and festive—proof that even amid the rush, Baguio’s charm continues to draw Filipinos home for remembrance, rest, and reflection.
