DSWD Says AICS Aid Isn’t Just for the Poor—But Why?

MANILA, Philippines — Many people think the government’s AICS program is only for the poor. But guess what? That’s not true!

An official from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) just made it clear:

“Anyone can ask for help — rich or poor, working or jobless, professional or not,” said Edwin Morata, Director of DSWD’s Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU) during a press event on Saturday.

🧍‍♂️ So What Is AICS, Anyway?

AICS stands for Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation. It’s a program that helps people who are facing hard times or emergencies like:

  • Someone in the family is sick 🤒

  • A loved one passes away 🕊️

  • Someone loses their job 😞

  • A student needs help with school expenses 🎓

  • Or there’s just not enough money to buy food or pay for transportation 🥫🚌

And here’s the big news:
AICS is not just for the poor! It’s a program meant to help anyone in need, no matter their income level.

🧠 It’s Not Just About Money, Either

Morata explained that AICS doesn’t only give cash. It also helps people with their emotions and mental health.

The program includes:

  • Psychological first aid (to help you feel calm when something scary or sad happens)

  • Counseling (talking to someone trained to help you handle stress)

  • Support services (like help getting to the hospital or paying school fees)

💬 “We Don’t Judge Anyone”

“We don’t look at your bank account or job title,” Morata said.
“If you’re in crisis, we’ll look at your situation and find a way to help.”

He called AICS a “catch-all” program, which means it’s meant to catch people before they fall too far, whether they’re rich or poor.

📝 What Kind of Help Can You Ask For?

If you or someone you know is in a crisis, AICS can provide:

  • 💊 Medical aid

  • 🕊️ Burial assistance

  • 🎓 School support

  • 🚌 Transportation help

  • 🍞 Food packs

  • 💵 Emergency cash

  • 🧠 Emotional support and counseling

🧑‍⚕️ Who Should Reach Out?

This program is for any Filipino going through a hard time — not just those living in poverty. If you’re hurting, struggling, or suddenly hit with a problem, DSWD’s AICS might be able to help.

❤️ Final Message: “Help Is Here—Just Ask.”

So whether you’re a student, an employee, a parent, a professional, or just someone going through a tough time — the DSWD wants you to know:

“You don’t have to face your crisis alone. Help is available.”
