Vice President Sara Duterte said something really big:
“I’m the top choice to become president in 2028 — and that’s why they’re trying to stop me!”
She said this during an interview with Russian media. The Office of the Vice President shared the interview transcript with the public on Wednesday night.
🔥 What’s the Drama All About?
Sara believes that the impeachment case filed against her — and the arrest plans for her dad, former President Rodrigo Duterte — are connected to the upcoming 2028 national elections.
She says:
“The government is doing this because President Bongbong Marcos wants to stay in power. He doesn’t want to give up the seat!”
Sara thinks Marcos is targeting people who could be a threat in the next election — including her and her father.
“They’re scared of me because I’m popular,” she said.
“If they go after my dad, they think I’ll be weaker because we’re one team, one family.”
🏛️ The Palace Reacts: “It’s Just a Distraction!”
But the people working for President Marcos didn’t stay quiet.
Undersecretary Claire Castro, a spokesperson from the Malacañang Palace, said Sara is trying to distract people from the real issues.
She explained that if you’re a true public servant, you should be answering questions, not blaming others.
“It looks like she’s just making a story to make people ignore the real problems,” Castro said.
And when Sara called Marcos’ leadership a “budol” (a scam or trick), Castro clapped back:
“Is it really the President who’s scamming people? He tells us to focus on work, not on politics. So who’s the real scammer here?”
😬 From Teammates to Rivals?
Remember in 2022, Bongbong Marcos and Sara Duterte were teammates when they ran for President and Vice President?
Now, things have changed.
Sara said she hasn’t decided yet if she’ll run for President in 2028. Some of her fans told her to decide by late 2026.
“I haven’t made plans yet. I’ll decide by the fourth quarter of 2026,” she shared.
Even though she said she doesn’t hate Marcos, Sara admitted that she’s unhappy with how he’s doing his job.
“I don’t hold grudges. But I have a big problem with how he leads the country. Especially what they did to my father — that’s a big insult to the Philippines,” she said during a rally in Australia.
😮 Final Blow From the Palace
Back at the Palace, Undersecretary Castro had this to say about Sara:
“If she won’t listen or check what’s really going on in the government, she won’t learn anything. And that will be her loss.”
