This Tuesday, a big drama happened in court in Muntinlupa. TV host and actor Vic Sotto went to testify in his cyber libel case against director Darryl Yap.
Why? Because Yap made a movie teaser that Vic Sotto said was unfair and damaging to his name.
👉 The movie teaser was for Yap’s upcoming film called “The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma.”
👉 In the teaser, actress Gina Alajar (playing Charito Solis) asked the actress who played Pepsi Paloma if Vic Sotto raped her.
👉 The actress answered, “Yes.”
This short teaser shocked many people and made it look like Vic Sotto was guilty of something terrible.
But in court, Vic Sotto explained that in the full script of the movie, he was not actually named as one of those who hurt Pepsi Paloma. He also said that in the movie script, there was a note saying the rape allegation was only a “publicity stunt.”
The problem, according to Vic’s lawyer, Atty. Enrique Dela Cruz, is that this important detail was not included in the teaser video. Because of that, people could easily believe the false story that Vic was one of Pepsi Paloma’s rapists.
Darryl Yap’s side refused to give any public comment. But in court, he already said he was “not guilty.”
Vic Sotto filed the case under the country’s Revised Penal Code on libel, together with the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
The next hearing is set on September 9.
For background, Pepsi Paloma, whose real name was Delia Smith, was a famous sexy actress in the 1980s. Sadly, she died in 1985 at the young age of 18, just three years after she told the court that her earlier rape accusations against showbiz figures were not true.
Now, decades later, her story is back in the spotlight—this time causing a fiery legal battle between Vic Sotto and Darryl Yap.
