Help is on the way for families devastated by the powerful magnitude 7.4 and 6.8 earthquakes that struck Manay, Davao Oriental. The United States has delivered over 137,000 family food packs and 500 emergency shelter kits to support survivors rebuilding their lives.
US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson expressed her deep concern and compassion for the victims, saying her team is closely working with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to assess what more can be done.
“My heart goes out to all those affected by the Mindanao earthquake and recent natural disasters,” Carlson said.
Messages of Support From Around the World
The tragedy in Mindanao has stirred messages of sympathy and solidarity from the international community.
Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya offered heartfelt words to those impacted:
“My heart goes out to all the families affected by the earthquake in Davao and the southern Philippines. Japan stands with the Filipino people with hope, strength, and solidarity.”
Australian Ambassador Marc Innes-Brown also shared his admiration for the Philippines’ resilience, saying:
“Our thoughts are with those affected by the earthquakes in the Davao region. Australia commends the Philippines’ response and resilience in the face of multiple disasters.”
Meanwhile, the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines extended condolences and prayers for swift recovery:
“We mourn the lives lost and extend our deepest sympathies to the families affected by the earthquake in Davao region. We sincerely hope for a swift rebuilding of homes and communities.”
The Impact So Far
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the consecutive earthquakes have left 8 people dead and 395 injured. Damage to infrastructure across Davao Region and Caraga has reached ₱100.25 million, with 273 structures affected.
