MANILA — Big changes are coming to the skies. United Airlines has announced that it will replace its entire Guam-based Boeing 737-800 fleet with 10 brand-new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft for intra-Asia flights.
The first of these aircraft will arrive in February 2026, marking a fresh chapter for United’s Asia-Pacific operations.
“Our investment in new aircraft to service our intra-Asia routes will deliver the premium experience our customers expect of United,” said Kenichi Kiriyama, United Airlines’ director of sales, Asia Micronesia.
United’s Unique Role in Asia
United is the only US carrier flying intra-Asia routes.
-
Manila–Guam: daily service
-
Manila–Palau: twice-weekly service
-
Cebu–Tokyo Narita: daily service with onward connections to the US
For travelers with connecting flights to or from mainland America, this investment promises a smoother, more consistent journey—from check-in to landing.
What’s Inside the New 737 MAX 8?
The aircraft is designed with comfort and convenience in mind:
-
166 seats equipped with USB charging ports
-
Bluetooth connectivity for wireless headphones paired with seatback screens
-
Larger overhead bins for easier storage
-
Wi-Fi access (with Starlink rollout planned fleet-wide in the coming years)
-
Extra legroom seating for added comfort
Bigger Moves Ahead
United is also strengthening its long-haul network. Starting October 26, its Manila–San Francisco service will increase from once daily to twice daily.
With these upgrades, United Airlines is sending a clear message: it’s not just about flying—it’s about giving passengers an elevated, seamless, and connected experience across the Pacific.
