Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, said something really important on Wednesday. She said Ukraine is open to talking and finding peace—but they will never agree to surrender or give up their land to Russia.
What’s Happening?
Some news reports said that the United States made a suggestion. They said maybe Ukraine could agree to a deal where Russia gets to keep some parts of Ukraine that it took, including Crimea, a big area that Russia has controlled since 2014.
But Ukraine didn’t like that idea at all.
Svyrydenko posted on social media (on a site called X, which used to be Twitter) and said:
“There will be no deal that lets Russia grow stronger and come back later with more violence.”
She also said:
“Our people don’t want a fake peace where fighting just stops for a while but could start again anytime.”
What Ukraine Really Wants
Ukraine is asking for something simple and fair:
-
A full stop to all the fighting—on land, in the sky, and at sea.
-
No tricks. No short breaks.
-
Just real peace where no more bombs fall, and no more people get hurt.
If Russia tries to pause just a little bit (instead of stopping everything), Ukraine says it will only match that. They won’t fully stop if Russia doesn’t.
No to “Fake Peace”
Svyrydenko explained that pretending there’s peace when Russia still controls parts of Ukraine is not okay. That would be like saying the bully won just because things got quiet for a bit.
Ukraine wants real peace—not a break that lets the bully come back stronger.
What This Means
The people of Ukraine are tired of the war, but they also love their country too much to give it away. They are brave and standing strong.
They’re saying:
“We want peace. But we’re not giving up what’s ours.”
