Trump Assures Cambodia, Thailand ‘Will Be Fine’ After Conflict Talks

US President Donald Trump expressed confidence Friday that Thailand and Cambodia are “going to be fine” following recent phone calls with both nations’ leaders, aimed at easing tensions over their latest border conflict.

The two Southeast Asian countries have long grappled with disputes over a shared border. In July, these tensions erupted into five days of fighting, leaving at least 48 people dead and around 300,000 temporarily displaced. A US-brokered ceasefire, negotiated alongside Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, brought a fragile calm—but trouble flared again this week.

Thailand suspended the ceasefire and demanded an apology, accusing Cambodia of laying new landmines—a claim Cambodia denies.

“I spoke to the prime ministers of both countries and they’re doing great. I think they’re going to be fine,” Trump told reporters Friday evening.

In a separate interview with GB News, he spoke more broadly about world conflicts. “I think I settled one today,” he said, though he didn’t provide further details.

A White House official also confirmed Trump’s engagement with Malaysia on Friday, highlighting ongoing US efforts to maintain peace in the region.

Despite the recent flare-ups, Trump’s comments signal optimism that dialogue and diplomacy can help Thailand and Cambodia navigate their longstanding border disputes peacefully.
