Trans man who joined ‘PBB’ tells Jake Zyrus: ‘Got you, bro!’
MANILA – A former “Pinoy Big Brother” (PBB) housemate famous for coming out as a transgender man during his stint on the reality show has shown his support for Jake Zyrus.
“Got you, bro. Sobrang nakaka-proud!” Jesi Corcuera told Zyrus on Twitter, moments after the “Gandang Gabi Vice” episode where the singer opened up about his coming out experience aired Sunday.
“Naiiyak ako dahil alam ko kung ano ang pakiramdam at pinagdadaanan ni @jakezyrus 🏳️🌈 #GGVTrueColors“

Corcuera became known when he joined “PBB 737”. Late into the season, he shocked many when revealed that he is a transgender male. He admitted that he was scared to come out at first, saying that he had been branded as a “sinner” by friends and family.
Zyrus made an appearance on “Gandang Gabi Vice” to also launch his first single under his new name, a cover of Jay-R Siaboc’s “Hiling.”
Formerly Charice, he continues to receive mixed reactions from Filipinos for his decision to cast out his former identity.
Because of the image of Charice –the Filipino girl with a soaring voice who once broke into Hollywood– many had difficulty in accepting the change, most notably his grandmother.
Zyrus shrugged off the criticisms lodged at him, saying that he came out as a transgender male because he wants to inspire.
“Ginagawa ko po ito para sa mga tao na hindi kayang gawin pa [ang mga ganitong bagay]. Gusto ko pong maging inspirasyon para sa kanilang lahat,” he explained.
“Sila iyong isa sa dahilan kung bakit naglalakas-loob po ako na gawin lahat ito dahil gusto ko ring malaman nila na hindi sila nag-iisa, na kung kinaya ko eh kakayanin din nila.”
Aiza Seguerra, a recording artist and former TV host who is now the chairman of the National Youth Commission, earlier echoed the praise Zyrus has been receiving from the LGBT community.
“Kung ang pangalan ay isa lamang hadlang sa pagpapalaya ng totoo mong pagkatao, wala akong nakikitang masama sa pagpalit nito,” Seguerra, who is also a transgender male, said.
