Toyota now on faster track to carbon neutrality

TOYOTA Motor Philippines Corp. (Toyota) — the biggest auto company in the country that is in charge of the exclusive manufacturing, sales and distribution of Toyota as well as Lexus vehicles in the nation — will be accorded a trophy during the inaugural run of The Manila Times Sustainability Champions Awards, happening at Conrad Manila in Pasay on Sept. 23, 2025, starting 11 a.m. till 3 p.m.

During the inaugural run with the title “Envisioning our green future,” Toyota will be accorded a sustainability champion trophy for implementing the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

This is a tribute to the dedication of Toyota to advocate Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG 6; Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 7; Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 12; Climate Action, SDG 13; Life below Water, SDG 14; and Life on Land, SDG 15.

Toyota practices water recycling throughout its network of factories and has upgraded its wastewater treatment plant that can treat 55 cubic meters of industrial wastewater per hour.

The corporation has installed a 1-megawatt solar array at its Sta. Rosa, Laguna manufacturing plant that supplies 4 percent of the plant’s power requirements.

Toyota has rolled out a zero single-use plastic directive in all its dining areas. The corporation also encourages correct waste segregation in all corporate spaces.

The corporation is dedicated to attaining carbon neutrality by 2035, which is a faster track than the corporation’s prior deadline of 2050.

Toyota has adopted 10 hectares of a mangrove area in Lian, Batangas, which is a portion of the Verde Island Passage that is considered to be the focal point of aquatic shoreline biodiversity globally.

The corporation has set up an 11-hectare ecological forest within its plant complex in Sta. Rosa, Laguna that now holds a terrarium and an ecological pathway.

Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. is also accorded a sustainable champion trophy because of its initiative, impact, inclusiveness and integration, which are collectively called The Manila Times Four I’s of Sustainability.
