The Philippine government on Wednesday issued a strong advisory for Filipinos in Nepal to remain indoors as violent protests continue to grip the country.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), more than 120 Filipinos currently reside in Nepal. While no Filipinos have been reported hurt, authorities stressed the importance of extreme caution as the unrest intensifies.
“In view of recent developments in Nepal and until the situation stabilizes, Filipinos are advised to shelter in their residences and avoid going out,” the DFA said in its advisory.
The agency urged Filipinos to strictly follow the instructions of local authorities, observe curfews, and prioritize their safety at all times.
The protests—fueled by anger over alleged corruption—have already claimed at least 22 lives and left dozens more injured. The crisis also forced Nepal’s Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli, to resign after weeks of unrest.
The DFA assured the public that its embassy in New Delhi, along with the honorary consulate general in Kathmandu, is closely monitoring the situation. They remain in constant coordination with local Filipino community organizations to ensure everyone’s safety.
For now, Filipinos in Nepal are reminded to remain alert, stay updated, and seek immediate help if needed.
