Spain is stepping up to help migrants affected by one of the worst natural disasters in its history. The government announced it will grant legal status to around 25,000 migrants who suffered during the Valencia floods last year.
A Disaster That Shook Spain 😢
In October 2023, massive flash floods swept through Valencia, destroying everything in their path. The floods:
🔹 Killed over 220 people 💔
🔹 Destroyed 60,000 homes & 105,000 cars 🚗🏚️
🔹 Damaged over 10,000 businesses 💼
Entire neighborhoods were submerged, leaving thousands of families stranded with no homes or jobs. It was one of Spain’s worst disasters ever.
How Spain Is Helping Migrants
To protect those most vulnerable, the government will provide:
✔ 1-year residence & work permits 📜
✔ Student permits for those in school 🎓
✔ Legal status for affected families 👨👩👧👦
The goal? Prevent migrants from becoming undocumented and give them a fresh start after losing everything.
Spain’s Pro-Migrant Approach 🌍
While some European countries are tightening border controls, Spain is welcoming more migrants to support its economy.
✔ Plans to legalize 900,000 undocumented immigrants in 3 years
✔ Migrants have helped Spain’s economy grow faster than most of Europe
A New Beginning for Thousands 🏡
With these new permits, thousands of flood survivors can rebuild their lives—legally and safely. 🙏
