MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5 has been raised over the northern portion of Islands (Babuyan, Panuitan, Didicas, and Calayan) due to Super Typhoon Nando, which may make landfall either at noontime or early Monday afternoon, the state-run weather agency said.
Weather specialist Daniel James Villamil, of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that Signal No. 4 is up over the southern portion of Batanes (Basco, Mahatao, Ivana, Uyugan and Sabtang), the rest of Babuyan Islands, and the northeastern portion of Cagayan (Sta. Ana).
Meanwhile, Signal No. 3 is hoisted over the rest of Batanes, the northern and central portions of mainland Cagayan and northern and central portions of Ilocos Norte, while Signal No. 2 is raised over the rest of Cagayan, Isabela, the rest of Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, the northern portion of Benguet, the northeastern portion of Nueva Viscaya, the rest of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and the northern portion of La Union.
Pagasa said Signal No. 1 is up over Quirino, the rest of Nueva Viscaya, the rest of Benguet, the rest of La Union, Pangasinan, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Zambales and the northern portion of Quezon.
It said that the center of the eye of the super typhoon was located at 265 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan and moving west-northwestward with maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 250kph.
Pagasa reiterated that Nando, which has maintained its strength, may pass close or make landfall over Babuyan Islands between noontime and early Monday afternoon.
It was forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, has been affecting Southern Luzon, including Bicol Region, Metro Manila, MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), Bataan, and the rest of CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) where occasional rains would prevail.
The rest of the country would be experiencing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms also due to habagat, the state weather agency said.
