Senate halts work on Aug 26 as bad weather disrupts schedule

The Senate announced on Monday that it will suspend work on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. This follows a memorandum from the Office of the President ordering the suspension of work in all government offices in Metro Manila because of heavy rain expected from the low pressure area and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

However, the Commission on Appointments (CA) will still continue with its scheduled activity.

In an advisory, the Senate said:
“Upon instruction of the Senate President, the head of the Maintenance and General Services Bureau (MGSB) is directed to ensure the presence of personnel who are necessary and essential in preparing the Session Hall of the Senate of the Philippines. This is to make sure that the Commission on Appointments can proceed with its mandate, pursuant to Article VI, Section 19 of the Constitution, at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow.”

The advisory added that all other Senate officials and employees do not need to report for work.

Earlier, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) also announced the suspension of classes and government work in several areas due to the expected bad weather.

According to the PAGASA 4 p.m. weather forecast, the combined effect of the Southwest Monsoon and a low pressure area will continue to bring rain to many parts of the country.
