Vice President Leni Robredo backs Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno as she joined calls against the quo warranto petition filed against the Chief Justice.
“As your duly-elected Vice President, I took an oath to defend the Constitution. You can count on me to do everything in my power to right this wrong, should it ever come to pass,” Robredo said.
In a show of strong support to the Chief Justice, Robredo also encouraged the public to defend the judiciary.
“We can’t just keep quiet in the dark brought about by events the last few months. We have to set aside our fear and fight for our judiciary,” the Vice President said.
Earlier, the Coalition for Justice (CFJ) launched an online petition to support Sereno.
More than 16,000 signed the petition calling for the dismissal of the quo warranto petition.
Meanwhile in the supplemental memo submitted by CJ Sereno Friday, May 4, she appealed to her colleagues to remain faithful to their oath of upholding and defending the Constitution because their judgement will decide not only her fate but the fate of incumbent members of the Supreme Court.
