MANILA, Philippines — Amid reports that Leyte First District Rep. Martin Romualdez is on his way out as Speaker of the House of Representatives, Malacañang said stepping down would not spare him from any probe into the alleged massive corruption involving flood control projects, particularly the investigation being conducted by the Independent Commission for Infrastructure.
“That’s what will happen should he resign, or even if he doesn’t resign. If his name is dragged and there is evidence against him, it would be good for him to defend himself by presenting records he would like to share. Resign or not resign, he will still be investigated,” Castro said in Filipino at a press briefing on Wednesday.
Romualdez was among several lawmakers implicated in the alleged anomalous flood control projects.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. last Monday reiterated that no one, not even his family members or political allies, will be spared in the probe.
