The people who own shares in the Philippine Stock Exchange (also called the PSE) just made a big decision — they voted to keep all 15 members of its Board of Directors for one more year.
This decision was made during their annual stockholders’ meeting on July 12, where everyone who has a piece of ownership in the PSE had a chance to vote.
What Is the PSE?
The Philippine Stock Exchange is like a big marketplace — but instead of fruits or toys, people buy and sell parts of companies, called stocks. It’s a very important place for businesses and investors.
To make sure everything runs fairly and smoothly, there’s a group of 15 people called the Board of Directors. They are the leaders who help make big decisions, create rules, and guide the future of the stock exchange.
Who Are the Leaders?
At the meeting, these two important people were re-elected:
-
Jose Pardo – He will stay as the Chairman (kind of like the team captain).
-
Ramon Monzon – He will stay as the President and CEO (the main boss who runs daily operations).
Jose Pardo said that by keeping the same group of leaders, the PSE can continue the big plans and changes they’ve started—like getting more companies to join the exchange, offering new services, and making it easier for people to buy and sell stocks.
Who Makes Up the PSE Board?
The 15-member board is made up of different kinds of directors:
-
1 President-Director
-
Up to 5 Broker Directors – These are people who help others buy and sell stocks.
-
At least 5 Independent Directors – These are people who are not connected to any company. They help make fair decisions.
-
At least 4 Sectoral Directors – They represent different groups like the companies who sell stocks, investors who buy stocks, and others who are involved in the market.
Who Were Re-Elected?
Independent Directors (they make sure everything is fair):
-
Retired Chief Justice Teresita Leonardo-De Castro
-
Peter Favila
-
Andrew Jerome Gan
-
Vicente Panlilio
Broker Directors (they know how buying/selling stocks works):
-
Diosdado Arroyo
-
Eddie Gobing
-
Anthony Te
-
Wilson Sy
-
Ma. Vivian Yuchengco
Sectoral Directors (they speak for different groups):
-
Atty. Marilyn Victorio-Aquino – represents companies that sell stocks
-
Ferdinand Constantino and Jose Arnulfo Veloso – represent investors
-
Edgardo G. Lacson – represents others in the financial market
What’s Next for the PSE?
Chairman Pardo said that the board’s job is to give smart guidance and make strong policies to help the stock exchange grow. One of their biggest goals is to combine the Philippine Stock Exchange and the Philippine Dealing System Holdings Corp. — another important part of the financial system. He believes this will help make the stock market in the Philippines stronger and better for everyone.
