The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) will watch over 106,000 polling precincts on May 9, Election Day, its chairperson Myla Villanueva said Friday.
Interviewed on GMA News’ Unang Balita, Villanueva said their volunteers will assist voters in polling centers as well as check the election returns to assure accuracy of vote counts.
“Alam niyo napakadaming presinto ngayong Lunes, 106,000 precincts po ang babantayan ng PPCRV. Kami po ay accredited citizen’s arm ng Comelec, nagtatrabaho po tayo para sa taumbayan,” he said.
(There are so many precincts on Monday, 106,000 precincts that will be monitored by the PPCRV. We are an accredited citizen’s arm of the Commission on Elections. We are working for the people.)
As the accredited citizen’s arm of the Commission on Elections, the PPCRV will receive the fourth copy of election returns. The PPCRV will then check if the copy matches the data in the electronic election return.
According to Villanueva, during 2019 midterm elections, the PPCRV recorded 99.995% of matching rate between the physical election returns and the electronically transmitted copies.
For the May 9 elections, Villanueva encouraged the public to sign up as volunteers for the poll watchdog or donate food, water, vehicles, and other resources for their volunteers.
