President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has extended a new offer to former PNP chief Police General Nicolas Torre III—this time, for a role directly tied to the government’s fight against corruption.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed the development on Wednesday, saying the President’s move shows his continued trust in Torre, despite their earlier differences.
Torre was removed as PNP chief after clashing with the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) over the reassignment of senior police officials. Remulla, who also serves as the ex officio chair of NAPOLCOM, made it clear: there was nothing personal behind the decision.
“It has something to do with anti-corruption. The President still really believes in General Torre,” Remulla said in an interview.
“It is still enough that he be offered a position to fight corruption and investigate corruption,” he added.
Remulla also stressed that disagreements should not be mistaken for broken trust or lost friendship.
“A difference of opinion does not necessarily mean an end of a friendship, an end of a working relationship. It was just that,” he explained.
The statement was made during the eighth monthly meeting of the Consular Corps of the Philippines, where Remulla was guest of honor and speaker.
The Consular Corps, composed of career consular officers and honorary consuls, holds regular meetings to build stronger ties and encourage dialogue among its members.
