Pinoy Seafarers Missing After Yemen Ship Attack – DMW Probes

A big ship called Eternity C, owned by a Greek company, had 22 people on board.
➡️ 21 of them were Filipinos, and one was Russian.
The ship was attacked by sea drones and small boats while sailing in dangerous waters, about 50 nautical miles from the port of Hodeidah in Yemen.

Here’s what’s confirmed so far:

  • 2 people are missing

  • 2 others were hurt

  • The rest? Still being checked.

The DMW Secretary, Hans Cacdac, said it’s hard to contact the crew right now. The shipowner and manning agency are having communication problems, but they are working on it fast.

📞 DMW Takes Action

DMW is:

  • Talking to the families of the missing and injured.

  • Working with groups like the International Transport Workers’ Federation.

  • Coordinating with international agencies to find and help the crew.

✅ 17 Pinoy Seafarers Safe After Another Attack

There was another attack earlier, also near Yemen, involving another ship called MV Magic Seas. This one had 17 Filipino crew members, and they are now safe!

Here’s what happened:

  • Armed men attacked their ship using machine guns and rocket launchers.

  • Luckily, the ship had four armed security guards, who fought back.

  • The crew escaped and was rescued by another ship passing by, called Safeen Prism.

  • All crew members, including the 17 Filipinos, are now resting in a hotel in Djibouti, East Africa.

✈️ DMW Working on Getting Everyone Home

Secretary Cacdac said the DMW is now working hard to bring the Filipino seafarers home quickly and give support to their families.

They are also making sure that President Bongbong Marcos gets updated on what’s going on.

🚫 New Rules to Keep Seafarers Safe

Cacdac made a strong statement to shipowners:

“Avoid sailing near the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. It’s too dangerous. Safety first!”

If ship companies don’t report their ship routes or don’t protect the Filipinos on board, they could be punished.

Now, the DMW is requiring manning agencies to:

  • Submit ship and crew info if their vessels are avoiding dangerous areas.

  • Use a special email: sbhighrisk@dmw.gov

Also, MV Magic Seas and MV Eternity C are now banned from hiring Filipino seafarers, at least for now.

🛑 Should Filipinos Stop Working on Ships in the Red Sea?

The Philippine government is thinking about banning Filipinos from working on ships that go through the Red Sea, where the attacks are happening more often.

Cacdac said:

“This attack was more intense. They used drones and rocket launchers. That’s why we’re waiting for guidance from our security agencies, like the DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs) and DND (Department of National Defense).”
