Philippines records 1,124 new COVID-19 cases recorded from May 2-8, 2022

The Philippines logged a total of 1,124 new COVID-19 cases from May 2 to May 8, 2022, a 20% lower tally than the cases reported the previous week, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Monday.

According to the DOH’s weekly case bulletin, the daily case average for the week was 161. This was lower compared to the 200 recorded from April 25 to May 1, with 1,399 new COVID-19 infections.

Data also shows that 611 severe and critical cases are currently admitted in hospitals due to COVID-19.

Of the 2,817 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 474 or 16.8% were occupied. Meanwhile 3,664 or 15.4% of the 23,818 non-ICU COVID-19 beds were in use.

Of the new cases recorded in the covered period, there were 14 individuals tagged as a new severe or critical case.

More than 68.4 million individuals or 76.04% of the government’s target population are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The DOH said some 13.4 million have received their booster shots.

Meanwhile, at least 6.7 million senior citizens or 77.12% of the target A2 population have also received their primary vaccine series.

There were also 42 more verified deaths last week, according to DOH. Of this, eight deaths occurred between April 25 to May 8.

Of the 42 deaths, 1 occurred in May 2022 (2.4%), 14 in April 2022 (33.3%), 8 in March 2022 (19.0%), 9 in February 2022 (21.4%), 4 in January 2022 (9.5%), 1 in December 2021 (2.4%), 1 in October 2021 (2.4%), 1 in September 2021 (2.4%), 1 in August 2021 (2.4%), 1 in July 2021 (2.4%), and 1 in June 2021 (2.4%). — BM, GMA News
