Philippines Crowns Best Public Restrooms in Annual Awards

MANILA, Philippines — Did you know that in the Philippines, there are awards given to the cleanest and best-designed public bathrooms? Yes, you read that right! 🚻✨ It’s called the Oro Inodoro Awards, and this year, it’s becoming even bigger and more exciting.

Before, it was called the Golden Kubeta Awards. The goal has always been the same: to celebrate public restrooms that are clean, safe, eco-friendly, and welcoming for everyone.

But here’s the new twist — this year, the awards will also recognize bathrooms that help people with “shy bladder syndrome” (or pamamahay in Filipino). This condition happens when someone feels too shy or nervous to pee in a public restroom if other people are around. The organizers want to make sure bathrooms are designed to help them too, so no one feels left out.

Last year, there were only 3 categories:

  • Offices & Schools

  • Commercial & Retail

  • Parks & Terminals

But this year, the awards will now have 5 categories:

  1. Public Offices & Spaces

  2. Schools & Universities

  3. Restaurants & Cafes

  4. Hotels & Malls

  5. Gas Stations & Transportation Hubs

That means more restrooms will have the chance to shine and be recognized!

The winners will be announced on November 19, World Toilet Day 🌍🚽. Judges will check the restrooms based on things like:

  • Aesthetics (how nice they look)

  • Cleanliness (how fresh and tidy they are)

  • Wastewater management (how safe and eco-friendly they are)

  • Water efficiency (not wasting water)

  • Maintenance (how well they’re taken care of every day)

💰 Prizes:

  • Grand Winner – ₱30,000

  • Other Category Winners (4) – ₱10,000 each

  • Special Awards:

    • Banyo Para Sa Lahat (inclusive restroom award) – ₱10,000

    • Banyo ng Bayan (People’s Choice, voted by the public on social media) – ₱10,000

Past Winners included:

  • Muntinlupa City Hall

  • Calle Café

  • Palacio de Memoria

  • Ayala Malls Cloverleaf (Banyo Para Sa Lahat winner)

  • PITX or Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (Banyo ng Bayan winner)

So yes, it’s not just about where you pee — it’s about recognizing restrooms that are safe, comfortable, and eco-friendly for all.
