PH reports 119 new Delta variant cases

The Department of Health on Friday confirmed the detection of 119 new cases of the highly contagious Delta coronavirus variant, raising the total confirmed infections to 450.

Of the additional Delta variant cases, 93 were tagged as local infections, 20 were classified as returning Filipinos, while six are still for verification.

The cases had listed addresses in the following areas:

— 18 in Metro Manila

— 14 in Calabarzon

— 18 in Central Luzon

— 31 in Western Visayas

— eight in Northern Mindanao

— one each in Central Visayas, Eastern Samar, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Cordillera Administrative Region

Of the new cases, 118 were tagged as recovered, the DOH noted.

“All other information is being validated by our regional and local health offices,” it added.

Earlier in the day, the department confirmed that the dreaded Delta variant has already been detected in all 17 cities and municipality in the capital region, which is now placed under hard lockdown.

Other variant cases

The agency also confirmed the detection of 125 new Alpha variant cases, bringing the total to 2,093.

A total of 94 additional Beta variant cases were also recorded, raising the tally to 2,362.

The DOH also reported 11 additional cases of the P.3 variant first detected in the Philippines, but they have been tagged as recovered.

With these developments, the agency reminded the public to follow minimum health standards to curb the spread of the virus. It added that vaccination programs will continue despite the imposition of stricter quarantine measures in Metro Manila and other localities.
