PH Named One of Michelin’s Top Food Spots for 2026

The Philippines is stepping into the global culinary spotlight—and the world is taking notice.

On Tuesday, the Department of Tourism (DOT) welcomed the MICHELIN Guide’s decision to name the Philippines as one of the Most Exciting Food Destinations for 2026, a recognition that places Filipino cuisine among the world’s most celebrated food cultures.

It’s a moment of pride.
And a powerful affirmation.

In a statement, the DOT said the honor elevates the country’s standing on the global gastronomy map, shining a light on its dynamic food scene—particularly in Manila, nearby regions, and Cebu. The Philippines joins 15 other food destinations worldwide, many already known for culinary excellence.

For Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, the recognition goes far beyond taste.

“Gastronomy is a vital expression of our national identity,” she said. “This recognition supports our broader goal of strengthening sustainable tourism by celebrating what is authentically Filipino—and by uplifting the people and places behind our food.”

It’s about stories.
About heritage.
And about the hands that cook, harvest, and serve.

The MICHELIN Guide praised the country’s unique balance of traditional flavors and modern techniques, driven largely by a new generation of young Filipino chefs. According to the guide, this blend of old and new is exactly what deserves greater international attention.

The timing couldn’t be better.

Frasco noted that the recognition comes during a milestone period for Philippine gastronomy—marked by the arrival of the MICHELIN Guide in the country, the hosting of Terra Madre Asia and the Pacific, and the Philippines’ upcoming role as host of the UN Tourism World Gastronomy Forum in 2026.

“This year stands as a testament to the Philippines’ exceptional culinary potential,” she said.

MICHELIN’s anonymous inspectors also highlighted iconic Filipino dishes that continue to captivate global palates—sisig, sinigang, inasal, and adobo. These favorites were praised for their bold yet balanced flavors, blending sweet, salty, and sour notes through regional fruits, spices, and time-honored cooking methods like marinating and grilling.

The guide also pointed to the country’s abundant fresh produce, available year-round thanks to its favorable climate—an essential foundation of Filipino cuisine.

And it’s not just about food.

MICHELIN also recommended several top-tier accommodations for visitors, including Grand Hyatt Manila, Shangri-La at the Fort, and beachfront resorts such as Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu Resort and Crimson Resort & Spa Mactan.

Since the guide’s arrival in the Philippines on October 30, it has recognized 108 establishments in Manila and Cebu. These include one Two-Star restaurant, eight One-Star restaurants, 25 Bib Gourmand spots, and 74 MICHELIN-Selected restaurants, along with special awards for sustainability, service, young chefs, and mixology.

With this recognition, the Philippines now stands alongside global culinary powerhouses such as Italy, Türkiye, China, Saudi Arabia, Canada, and Poland.

For Filipino food lovers—at home and abroad—it’s a clear message:

The world is ready for Filipino flavors.
