Cases of Covid-19 are again rising, with the Department of Health reporting on Sunday 2,227 new infections.

The number of new cases have not gone beyond the 2,000 mark for days, fueling hope that the country will see a continuing decline as the government ramps up its vaccination drive.

The country now has 2,826,410 total cases. The DoH said there were 21,101 active cases, of which 61.2 percent were either mild or asymptomatic.

The death toll breached the 47,000-mark after 175 new deaths were recorded, for a total of 47,047 fatalities.

Hospital bed utilization in the National Capital Region is at 31 percent for intensive care units (ICUs), 25 percent for isolation beds, and 23 percent for ward beds.

At the national level, bed utilization is at 31, 28, and 18 percent respectively for ICUs, isolation, and ward beds.

The DoH reminded the public not to let their guard down and to continuously observe minimum public health and safety standards to prevent another surge.

“Ating pinapaalalahan ang lahat na huwag maging kampante at maging mapagmatyag sa banta ng Covid-19. Ugaliing sumunod sa minimum public health standards at laging magsuot ng facemask na may face shield, mag physical distancing, at maghugas ng kamay (We remind everyone not to be complacent and to be vigilant to the threat of Covid-19. Make it a habit to adhere to minimum public health standards and always wear a facemask with a face shield, observe physical distancing, and wash your hands regularly),” it said.

The health department added that people’s actions will dictate the trend of new Covid-19 cases in the coming days.
