MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines and Finland strengthened their bilateral cooperation in advancing the safe and fair labor mobility of Filipino professionals and skilled workers.
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Thursday said that representatives of the two countries held their first Joint Committee Meeting on Skills Mobility on Wednesday in the Finnish capital, Helsinki.
The committee “aims to create pathways for ethical recruitment, skills recognition, and worker protection” while addressing the labor market needs of Finland and supporting the Philippine global workforce.
Among the issues discussed included a Joint Declaration of Intent, updates on national skills mobility policies, and a possible Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to institutionalize collaboration.
Both countries agreed to continue dialogues and chart the next steps in strengthening their partnership.
DMW Assistant Secretary Levinson Alcantara led the Philippine delegation, with embassy and labor officials joining him, while Finland’s delegation consisted of officials from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, the Finnish Immigration Service, Work in Finland, and the City of Helsinki.
