The Philippine Embassy in Washington and the Philippine Consulate General in New York have issued an urgent advisory to Filipinos across several parts of the United States, urging them to prepare for a powerful snowstorm expected to hit this weekend.
In a statement, the Embassy warned Filipino communities in the South, Midwest, and Northeast to stay alert as the approaching storm could bring heavy snowfall, dangerous travel conditions, and extreme cold.
“Filipino communities… are advised to undertake all necessary preparations and heed the warnings of local officials,” the Embassy said, stressing that conditions could worsen quickly once the storm arrives.
Safety, they emphasized, comes first.
“The safety of Filipino nationals is the Embassy’s priority. Please monitor local weather updates, prepare for cold temperatures, and limit travel during the storm,” the advisory added.
According to a Reuters report, the massive winter system is expected to disrupt travel, trigger power outages, and plunge temperatures across large parts of the country. As many as 150 million Americans could be affected from Friday through the weekend, with heavy snow and freezing rain stretching from the Central Plains to the East Coast, the U.S. National Weather Service said.
In case of emergencies, the Philippine Embassy in Washington has released its consular hotlines:
202-368-2767 and 202-769-8049.
Meanwhile, Filipinos in the New York area who need urgent assistance may contact the Philippine Consulate General’s emergency hotline at +1 (917) 294-0196.
As winter tightens its grip, Philippine officials remind kababayans to stay warm, stay informed, and stay safe — because preparedness can make all the difference.
