PH, Australia tighten defense pact amid rising tensions

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) made an important order on Saturday. They told all local government leaders — like governors, mayors, and barangay captains — to proudly display the Philippine flag in public places this coming Monday, during the celebration of National Heroes Day.

The DILG reminded leaders that the flag should not just be shown, but should be displayed properly and in a visible spot. They explained that the flag is more than just cloth — it is a powerful symbol of unity and love for the country.

This year’s National Heroes Day has the theme: “Isang Diwa, Isang Lahi, Isang Bayanihan” (One Spirit, One Nation, One Solidarity). The DILG said this theme is meant to honor the bravery of Filipino heroes — both the famous ones we read about in history books, and the many unknown heroes who fought for our freedom and dignity.

The official program will be held at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (Heroes’ Cemetery) in Taguig City. The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), together with other partner agencies, will lead the ceremony.

The DILG also encouraged all Filipinos to do their part in keeping the spirit of the heroes alive. They said this can be done through service to others, solidarity with fellow citizens, and showing true love for the Philippines.

In short, the message is clear: National Heroes Day is not just about remembering the past — it’s about living like heroes today.
