PALAWAN, PHILIPPINES — The Philippines’ crown jewel, Palawan, has once again earned international recognition. Travel authority Frommer’s has named the archipelagic province among the best places to go in 2026, celebrating its stunning islands, pristine waters, and unique natural wonders.
Famous for its breathtaking isles and islets, Palawan draws divers, snorkelers, spelunkers, and island hoppers from around the globe. Visitors flock to its turquoise lagoons, powdery beaches, and hidden coves that promise adventure and tranquility in equal measure.
One of the province’s standout attractions is Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. The underground river winds through dramatic limestone cliffs, concealing majestic caves and a thriving ecosystem of critically endangered species and hundreds of endemic plants and animals.
“Palawan’s biggest island offers plenty for every type of visitor,” Frommer’s said. “Unique landmarks like the Subterranean River National Park let you explore dramatic caves via boat tours on an underground river, framed by towering limestone cliffs.”
Frommer’s latest Best Places to Go list, released in October, is unranked and features other top destinations including Chicago, Jasper (Canada), Viti Levu (Fiji), Algarve (Portugal), Patagonia Azul (Argentina), Vienna, and Kruger National Park (South Africa).
Palawan’s acclaim isn’t new. In October, it landed in Condé Nast Traveler’s Top 10 Islands in Asia in the 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards, alongside Boracay and Siargao. Last year, Wanderlust Travel Magazine ranked it 10th on the Most Desirable Islands in the World list, while Travel + Leisure placed it 13th among the 25 Best Islands to Visit Around the World.
With its unspoiled natural beauty, thrilling adventures, and world-class attractions, Palawan continues to shine as one of the most iconic destinations in the Philippines and the world.
