Palace transfers senior citizens agency to DSWD

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. issued an Executive Order (EO) transferring the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) from the Office of the President to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Signed last September 18, EO No. 96 aims to strengthen policies and programs for the elderly “which includes improving bureaucratic efficiency.”

“A strong organizational link between the NCSC and DSWD must be established to further strengthen policies and programs for senior citizens, with the goal of enhancing delivery of social services and promoting the overall well-being and protection of the elderly,” part of the circular read.

“The NCSC is hereby attached to DSWD for purposes of policy and program coordination,” it added.

Marcos likewise ordered that the Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens Program shall remain with the DSWD.
