THE government will administer Covid-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) vaccine to children aged 5 to 11 years old starting on February 4, Malaca?ang announced on Tuesday.
In his virtual press briefing, acting Palace spokesman Karlo Alexei Nograles said the vaccination of children will begin in the National Capital Region (NCR).
“Nagpahayag naman si vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. na handa na ang proposed rollout strategy for the administration of Covid-19 vaccines para sa mga batang may edad na lima hanggang labing-isa (Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez said that we are ready for the proposed rollout strategy for the administration of Covid-19 vaccines for children aged 5 to 11 years old),” Nograles said.
“Ito po ay sisimulan na sa February 4, 2022. Phased approach po ito kung saan ang Phase 1 ay isasagawa muna sa NCR (This will start on February 4, 2022. It’s based on phased approach where it will begin in the NCR),” he added.
Nograles made the statement as the country is expected to receive the first shipment of 780,000 doses of Pfizer’s pediatric formulation on January 31.
The Philippines is also expected to receive 1.8 million more doses in the following days.
This is part of the 15 million doses the government procured for the vaccination of children against Covid-19.
Currently, Pfizer is the only vaccine brand given emergency use authorization for pediatric use.
During President Rodrigo Duterte’s prerecorded Talk to the People on Monday, Galvez said the government will issue the memorandum guidance this week, with town hall meetings to be conducted from January 24 to 28, for the rollout of the pediatric vaccination under the 5-11 years old age bracket.
He said the formulated low-dosing Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine to be used for the younger population will tentatively arrive on February 2.
