Pagasa: Trough of LPA affecting Metro Manila, parts of Luzon, Visayas

MANILA, Philippines —The low pressure area (LPA) off Coron, Palawan would likely move away from the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), but its trough or extension has been affecting many areas including Metro Manila, the state weather agency said on Tuesday.

Weather specialist Leanne Loreto of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in a 5 a.m. briefing that it has spotted several cloud clusters outside or within the Philippine Sea area, which could become another LPA.

“However, it still has a high uncertainty as to its track and development, but we are closely monitoring its movement,” the Pagasa forecaster said.

Particularly, the LPA has been affecting Bicol Region, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Aurora, Quezon, Rizal, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya, where cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms would prevail.

Also, its trough would be experienced over MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), rest of Central Luzon, rest of CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), and the rest of Visayas, Pagasa indicated.

Meanwhile, the easterlies would be bringing overcast skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Region and Cordillera Administrative Region.

On the other hand, the southwest monsoon or ‘habagat,’ which has resurfaced, is also bringing similar weather patterns and affecting the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) and SOCCSKSARGEN (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos), the state-run weather agency said.

Pagasa said the rest of Mindanao would likely have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
