MANILA, Philippines — A low pressure area (LPA) off Sorsogon has been affecting many parts in the Visayas and Luzon, including Metro Manila, the state-run weather agency said on Sunday.
But the weather disturbance, spotted near the vicinity of the town of Castilla, also in the same province, has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression over the next 24 to 48 hours, weather specialist Robert Badrina said in a 5a.m. briefing.
However, the LPA was expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms also over Central Luzon, CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), and Bicol Region, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
“Flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rain are even possible in these areas,” Badrina warned.
Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon would likely have partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies – winds that pass through the Pacific Ocean and carry humid and warm weather, the Pagasa forecaster said.
He said that Mindanao would be experiencing similar climatic conditions brought about by localized thunderstorms.
