Big problems are happening for many Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who were supposed to fly to the Middle East for work. Their flights got canceled, and now, instead of worrying about missiles or war, most of them are more afraid of something else — losing their jobs.
In a report from 24 Oras on Tuesday, reporter Mark Salazar said that 7 flights were canceled in one day. These include:
✈️ 4 flights going from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Dubai to the Philippines
✈️ 3 flights from Manila going to those same countries
Because of this, people like Abegail and Susana, both OFWs, are stuck and worried.
😟 Susana can’t go back home to Nueva Ecija because she doesn’t have enough money. She’s staying in a temporary place while waiting for updates about her flight.
😟 Abegail said she’s scared, but not of bombs or war — she’s more afraid of losing her job abroad. Why? Because she has a family to support, and that job is her only way to provide for them.
Even though there were no actual missile attacks in Saudi Arabia, many airlines still canceled flights. They’re being extra careful because of a new threat — problems with GPS signals that could affect planes in the air.
🗣️ Another OFW, Gia, said she already accepted that life abroad can be dangerous, but she’s still willing to go. Why? Because she said there are not enough jobs in the Philippines.
🙏 Edelyn said she’s just praying that the situation in the Middle East gets better soon.
📞 Meanwhile, Iynie shared that she spoke with her employer. The company said it understands the delay, but it’s still hard. “There’s a flight tomorrow, but it’s already full,” she said. So now, she’s booked for the next available flight on June 29.
So while the world is worried about missiles and war, these hardworking Filipinos are more worried about something very personal and real — keeping their jobs and feeding their families. 🥺💼🌍
