The new COVID-19 infections nationwide may go as high as 1,200 on Wednesday, December 7, based on the projections of independent monitoring group OCTA Research.

In a tweet on Tuesday night, OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said the new cases on Wednesday may range from 1,000 to 1,200.

This was after the Philippines recorded 883 new COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, bringing the active tally down to 17,481.

David said that the nationwide positivity rate — or the percentage of people who were found positive for COVID-19 among the total number of individuals tested — was at 12.6%.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), the National Capital Region (NCR) recorded the most cases in the last two weeks with 5,152.

It was followed by Calabarzon with 2,041, and Central Luzon with 1,061.

The DOH is currently spearheading a three-day nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive dubbed as “Bakunahang Bayan” in a bid to ramp up the inoculation uptake among children aged five to 17, and the booster uptake among the general population. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
