No Cause for Alarm, Says PH Embassy on Greenland Tension

As tensions rise overseas, the Philippine Embassy in Denmark is sending a clear message to Filipinos in Greenland: stay calm—there is no cause for alarm.

In a statement released Monday, the Embassy in Copenhagen said it is closely monitoring developments surrounding the ongoing tension between the United States and Greenland, working hand in hand with Danish and Greenlandic authorities.

“At this time, there is no cause for alarm,” the Embassy said.
“The Embassy stands ready to provide assistance should the need arise.”

It was a reassuring message—but not a call for complacency.

Stay Calm, Stay Alert

While the situation remains stable, the Embassy urged Filipinos to remain vigilant, follow local advisories, and rely only on official and credible sources for updates.

For those currently in Greenland, the reminder was clear:
Stay informed.
Stay connected.
Stay prepared.

The Embassy also encouraged Filipinos to register in its updated directory, ensuring they can be reached quickly in case of an emergency.

“The Embassy remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of all Filipinos in Greenland,” it said, adding that updates will be issued when necessary.

Filipinos in Greenland

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, there are 1,110 Filipino nationals in Greenland as of June 2025.
Of that number, 695 live in Nuuk, the capital city.

For many of them, Greenland is not just a workplace—it’s home.

What Sparked the Tension?

The unrest stems from renewed controversy involving U.S. President Donald Trump, who has openly expressed interest in placing Greenland under U.S. control.

His remarks—reportedly following frustration over not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize—have stirred backlash and strained relations with European allies.

Protests have since erupted.
Demonstrators gathered outside the U.S. Embassy in Denmark and the U.S. consulate in Greenland, voicing strong opposition to any attempt to take control of the island.

Denmark Pushes Back

Danish authorities were quick to respond.

They firmly rejected Trump’s statements and announced plans to increase defense efforts in Greenland under NATO, reinforcing their position that the island is not for sale—and never will be.

The Bottom Line

Despite the headlines and global attention, Philippine officials stress that Filipinos in Greenland are safe.

No immediate threat.
No need for panic.
Just awareness, preparedness, and unity.

For now, the message remains steady and reassuring:

Stay calm. Stay informed. The Embassy is watching—and ready.
