MANILA, Philippines – Retired and active members of the military expressed support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in his fight to eradicate corruption in government, calling such illegal acts as “direct and severe threat to national security.”
The expression of support was made by members of the Association of General and Flag Officers (AGFO) during a courtesy call in Malacañang on Friday to discuss key issues concerning the military as well as the government’s anti-corruption campaign.
During the meeting, AGFO, along with several other organizations, presented their manifestos of support to the President for his anti-corruption initiatives in baring anomalies in flood control and other infrastructure projects.
The high-ranking military officials’ group commended and supported Marcos for his decisive actions against the “deep-seated corruption” in the country.
“We view corruption not merely as a matter of graft, but as a direct and severe threat to national security,” the AGFO’s manifesto read.
“When funds intended to protect our communities from national calamities are siphoned off by greed, it does not only steal from public coffers; it directly endangers lives, destroys livelihoods, displaces families, and erodes the people’s trust in the very institutions meant to serve them,” it added.
Other groups that expressed support for the President were the National ROTC Alumni Association, the Philippine National Police Academy Alumni Association, and the Confederation of National Unified Service Association.
Joining the President at the event were Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo Jr., Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., and Armed Forces Chief General Romeo Brawner Jr.
