Mikee Quintos: Hate Strengthened My Love for Education

Setting the Record Straight: Mikee’s Journey Through Trials and Triumphs

In a heartfelt episode of “Your Honor,” actress Mikee, known for her role in *Sparkle*, took a moment to clarify a misunderstood chapter from her college days—the infamous “thesis issue.” With a deep breath and a heartfelt tone, she shared, “It was just group work for our landscaping class, not my thesis!” This revelation came on the heels of some public backlash when a groupmate claimed she didn’t contribute to their project. Unfortunately, that minor conflict snowballed into confusion for many, who mistakenly believed it was a thesis-related scandal.

Reflecting on that pivotal moment in her life, Mikee asked herself, “Why am I still doing this?” The answer wasn’t simple. Over her decade-long journey in college, she had moments of doubt, questioning whether she even wanted to continue her studies. The weight of expectations led to heated discussions with her parents as she contemplated leaving school behind for good. “I wanted to quit so many times,” she admitted.

Eventually, she decided to take a break, stepping away from her studies for two semesters. It was during this time that a profound realization struck her: “I felt ashamed in front of my parents. I was already out there working, and I understood how tough it is to make money.” This realization ignited a renewed drive within her. Finishing her degree became about more than just family pride; it was about her personal journey.

“I believe I needed that hate to wake me up,” Mikee said, reflecting on the public scrutiny she faced. “If it hadn’t blown up, I might not have felt that fire to finish college.”

The dedication she displayed throughout her education is remarkable. While filming *Encantadia* in 2016, Mikee managed to juggle her classes, often studying during breaks. “There were times I’d rush from the set to class, and if there was downtime, I’d bring my books along,” she recalled with a chuckle. There’s even a story of her attending class in full costume makeup! “I had to go to school looking like a goat—I just didn’t want to fail because of absences!”

With no showbiz background in her family and uncertainty about her future career, Mikee knew quitting school wasn’t an option. “It just didn’t make sense,” she said firmly.

Dispelling more rumors, she shared her past experiences, including the criticism she faced for allegedly skipping a group work session for a spa day—a claim she previously addressed as well.

Fast forward to June 2025, where all her hard work paid off as she proudly graduated with a degree in Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas. As part of her thesis, she even initiated a survey project at GMA Network Center, cleverly utilizing QR codes to gather feedback from employees and visitors regarding improvements in their environment.

Mikee’s journey is a powerful reminder of resilience, determination, and the importance of personal goals. Through every challenge and moment of self-reflection, she emerged stronger, proving that our struggles often pave the way for our greatest achievements. And in her own words, “I wouldn’t be here without all that I went through.”
