The famous Michelin Guide, known all over the world for rating restaurants, is coming to the Philippines! Starting in 2026, they’ll be rating restaurants in Manila and Cebu, and will also start looking at places in Pampanga, Tagaytay, and Cavite.
The Michelin Guide awards special stars to the best restaurants. Restaurants can get one star for “high-quality cooking that’s worth a stop,” two stars for “excellent cooking that’s worth a detour,” and three stars for “exceptional cuisine that’s worth a special journey.”
Created in 1900 by the Michelin tire company, the guide was originally made to help people find good places to eat while traveling by car. It’s now considered one of the most prestigious food ratings in the world.
Gwendal Poullennec, the international director of the Michelin Guide, says they’re excited to see how Filipino food is growing and how it combines traditional flavors with influences from all over the world. “Filipino cuisine is poised to take center stage on the global culinary map,” he said.
In Manila, young chefs are making Filipino food their own with new ideas, and Cebu is known for its great food and welcoming atmosphere for tourists.
Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco is also excited, calling the Michelin Guide’s arrival a big step for Filipino tourism. She said, “Every dish tells a story and every flavor invites you to experience our nation’s rich cultural tapestry.”
The Michelin Guide will also have a special category called Bib Gourmand, which highlights restaurants that offer great food at a reasonable price.
The Michelin inspectors who visit these restaurants are anonymous and experts in the food industry. They make sure their ratings are fair and based only on the quality of the food, not on anything else.
The full list of Michelin-rated restaurants in Manila, Cebu, and nearby areas will be announced in late 2025. You’ll be able to see the full list for free on the Michelin Guide’s website and apps!
