Mark Herras Breaks Silence on “Washed Up” & Gay Bar Gig Talk

MANILA, Philippines – Actor Mark Herras is making headlines after a video of him performing at a gay bar surfaced online. Some people quickly assumed that he was “washed up” and “desperate” for work. But Mark is setting the record straight—he’s just doing his job and providing for his family.

During an interview on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on Tuesday, Mark confidently responded to the criticisms.

“Performing at a gay bar is just part of my career,” Mark explained. “In showbiz, you’re not always in the spotlight forever. But I don’t let that get to me. I’m thankful for everything I’ve achieved.”

Why Is Mark Being Criticized?

Many people were surprised to see Mark, a former StarStruck champion and one of GMA Network’s top leading men in the 2000s, performing in a male entertainment bar. Some took this as a sign that his career had faded.

However, Boy Abunda, known as the “King of Talk,” told Mark that the only reason people are talking about it is because he’s still famous and relevant.

No Hard Feelings Toward GMA

Despite no longer being as active in mainstream television, Mark made it clear that he holds no grudges against GMA Network, the station that helped launch his career.

“I’m very grateful to GMA, especially for my love team with Jennylyn Mercado after we won StarStruck Season 1 in 2003,” he shared.

Family Comes First

Mark also emphasized that his main focus right now isn’t what people say about him—it’s his family.

“Instead of worrying about what people think of me, I focus on working. I have to provide for my family. If I let negativity get to me, how will I take care of them?” he explained.

When asked what he would tell his kids if they ever saw the viral video or heard about the controversy, Mark had a heartfelt response:

“Everything I do is for you. My job as an actor, as a performer, as a father—it’s all for my family.”

Mark: “There’s Nothing Wrong with Performing in a Gay Bar”

Mark stood firm that there was nothing wrong with his performance.

“It was just a dance performance. I didn’t do anything inappropriate. I didn’t even accept ‘table requests,’ even though that would have meant more earnings,” he clarified.

The Viral Video

The controversy started when a video of Mark performing at Apollo Male Entertainment Bar in Parañaque spread online. Some fans supported him, while others questioned if he had hit rock bottom.

But Mark isn’t letting the negativity affect him. He remains focused on working hard and doing what it takes to take care of his loved ones.

“At the end of the day, this is my job. And I will do what I need to do to support my family.”
