Mariel de Leon doesn’t want to be known as “beauty queen”
Former Miss International-PH Mariel de Leon would like to shed her image as a beauty queen, or at least no longer be known by the title.
As reported on PEP, the “Ang Panday” actress expressed her wish in an Instagram Story posted on 28 November, saying that the title beauty queen means nothing to her, and that people should stop tagging her in pageant posts.
“Women are not whatever ‘title’ society chooses to ‘name’ us. Women are so much more than that,” she added.
de Leon said that while she is thankful for her pageant journey that opened her up to many opportunities, she has already closed that chapter of her life.
“I am not the type to care about titles, positions, crowns, or names. None of that matter to me. What matters to me is me, my family, dogs, arts, and classical music,” she added.
She also added that she would rather have a simple and quiet life than surround herself with “toxic, negative, and fake people”.
“It’s good to reflect on your life and open your eyes and hearts to the things that should actually matter,” said de Leon.
