MANILA, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday reminded members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines that their primary duty is to defend the Constitution and the Filipino people.
Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the newly promoted generals and flag officers in Malacañang, Marcos urged them to “always act with integrity, uphold the rule of law, defend our democracy.”
“Don’t forget: Your oath today is to the Republic and to every Filipino who trusts that, because of you, they will live safely and with dignity. Today is not only a milestone but a renewed pledge that your loyalty remains with the Constitution and the Filipino people,” the Commander-in-Chief said.
He issued the reminder amid the political noise and public outrage over anomalies in public works projects.
Some parties recently urged the uniformed ranks to withdraw their support from Marcos following revelations of anomalous flood control projects.
The Department of National Defense and AFP already shot down such calls and maintained their support for the anti-corruption campaign of the present administration, recognizing it as a “national crusade for good governance, justice, and progress.”
The Palace also appealed to critics not to drag the military and police into politics.
